Pre-employment Carpentry Workshop
Recover work skills, rescuing wood from rubbish dumps.
Recovering personal skills and working towards the socio-labor inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities and mental illness, through the reuse of unused furniture and rejected wood collected through landfills, is one of the projects that we carry out in the Prelaboral Service where we support people who are facing a situation of mental illness.
The activity is a carpentry workshop that combines learning a trade with the therapeutic and occupational support of service professionals. By learning a trade, the inequalities of people with mental health disorders are reduced while working for the environment by recycling and reusing wood.
During the project’s operation, two hundred unique pieces of furniture have been made and 7 tons of waste from the landfills of the Bages region have been recovered. The artisanal furniture production provides participants in the carpentry workshop with tools to learn the trade of carpentry, while promoting responsible consumption and highlighting the importance of waste prevention and the extension of the life of the furniture.
