Joan Vila and Dolors Isern with Pol Marsà

On the 5th of August Joan Vila Fargas, the living donor of the Urpina estate in San Salvador de Guardiola, left us. Aged 97, Joan Vila lived in his house in Urpina, together with his two sons, Ramon and Salvador. His wife, Dolors Isern, had died a few years earlier.

It was in 2006 when the couple formed by Joan Vila and Dolors Isern visited AMPANS to give the entity their property to use it for the creation of opportunities and residecial services for people with intellectual disabilities. Both lived together in the manor house, with their two sons, Ramon and Salvador, and were able to see how the project of the Urpina estate was growing day by day. The recovery of the vineyards, the creation of a home for 24 people with support needs, the goat farm and the cheese factory that employs 12 people.

Joan Vila was a generous person, with a great capacity of vision for the protection of his two children, and at the same time, of the family and the preservation of the estate.

Joan was a countryside man, who lived for his children and for the land. A man who had a long life, marked by war and the death of his father. A hard worker, dedicated to the family, to the farm, to the land of which he always said that “we are not the owners of anything, we are only temporary administrators of the land”.

He was last internviewed by Vilaweb in this photo-reportage of the Urpina project of the AMPANS foundation a few weeks before his death: https://www.vilaweb.cat/noticies/preciosa-historia-mejor-queso-mon /
