Formatges Muntanyola wins gold again at the World Cheese Awards and places the Viejo Reserva goat cheese among the best in the world

The AMPANS foundation’s cheeses, made by a team of people with intellectual disabilities, already won a gold medal at last year’s competition for their Garrotxa

The Vell Reserva goat cheese from Formatges Muntanyola has been recognised with the gold medal in the final of the international World Cheese Awards recently held in Trondheim (Norway). This award reaffirms the quality seal of the brand promoted by the AMPANS foundation, which was already awarded last year with a gold for the Garrotxa, making it one of the best cheeses in the world, and a bronze for the Lúpulus, a cow’s milk eco cheese washed with beer and long maturing.

A jury of more than 250 experts who have evaluated more than 4,000 samples from producers all over the world searching for quality and excellence, have recognised the Vell Reserva from Formatges Muntanyola as one of the best cheeses in its category. Vell Reserva is a cured goat’s cheese matured for a minimum of four months, with a fine, rustic rind that gives it a subtle aroma of wine cellar.

The WCAs promote excellence in cheese production and provide global recognition. An award that comes shortly after the successful debut of Formatges Muntanyola at the World Cheese Championship in France last September, where the Garrotxa and also the Vell Reserva were awarded among more than 1,600 references from around the world. Moreover, these awards are in addition to those already received by several varieties of AMPANS foundation cheeses in other international and national competitions, such as Lactium, Concours International de Lyon, Gourmet Cheeses or Talent of Cheese.
